La premessaThe preface
Come nasce Verso.How Verso began.
Every poem has a few pages before the first story.
These are ours:
where Verso comes from, and why it’s made the way it is.
-
Prima, una frase.First, a sentence.
Verso nasce da una frase, scritta prima ancora che esistesse l’app:Verso began as a sentence, written before the app existed:
«La vita non si riscrive.
La scrittura va da sinistra a destra.
Non torniamo indietro.»“Life doesn’t get rewritten.
Writing moves left to right.
We don’t go back.”Da lì viene il nome. The name came from there. In Italian, verso means two things at once: a line of poetry; and a direction, toward. Toward the right, where writing moves. You write your life once: what happened isn’t erased or corrected. It’s closed, and it stays readable. The whole name is in that: every moment a verse, and one direction only.

La sedia vuota.The empty chair.
Then there’s the moment that sentence arrived in. Today you have no shortage of places to tell your story: the profiles, the chats, the version of you that has to hold up. A thousand stages, and no dressing room. Even the one place where the costume used to come off, the confidant, now feeds you your lines and plans your next move. One chair was still empty: a place with no audience, nothing to win, where your voice can be what it is. Verso was built for that chair. A chair set in front of a mirror, not a window: the age teaches us to look at others, to explain everything by them; here the gaze comes back to the one telling the story.

Perché a lei.Why her.
Verso parla a lei. Verso speaks to her. Not because feeling is women’s work, but because some things, today, weigh more on her side. The weight of romantic uncertainty, the waiting and the working-out, falls on her far more often than not. So do the unwritten rules of feeling: be understanding, be grateful, never be “too much.” The safety of a diary this intimate had to be designed starting from her. And confiding is a ritual women already have: the sister, the best friend, the end-of-evening retelling. Verso doesn’t invent it, it gives it a home. This app’s voice chose who it speaks to. It’s a dedication, not a wall.

Quello che rifiuta.What it refuses.
And finally: Verso is defined by what it refuses. It doesn’t judge him; no scores, no labels, no predictions: the subject is you, always. It doesn’t tell you what to do: it asks the questions; the answers stay yours. It doesn’t measure you: no grades, no streaks to keep alive, no goals. It doesn’t ask you to write well: one true word is worth more than a polished page. And it sells nothing, collects nothing: what you write stays on your phone; we don’t even know you’re here.
Le promesse, per esteso, sono nel manifesto. The promises, in full, are in the manifesto.
